BTS’s Most Sophisticated Album to Date
Love Yourself: Tear (2018) is one of my favorite BTS albums to date. This turn introduced a more sophisticated and mature sound for the group.
Tear is the older brother of Love Yourself: Her. Whereas Her revealed a love-lorn, light-hearted, and optimistic song set, Tear covers the darker side of love and relationships. Songs such as “Singularity” and “Fake Love” detail the conflict caused by inauthenticity within a relationship. “Truth Untold” and “134340” describe the pain of unrequited love. And to complete the theme, “Outro: Tear” crashes and burns any love that might have remained.
On the flip side, songs like “낙원 (Paradise),” “Love Maze,” and “Magic Shop” reassure the listener whose lost dreams cause her to wander and wonder if love is even a reality.
I go into much more detail about my thoughts on this album in the video, so check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below!
