From the Vault | Lisa McClendon: My Diary, Your Life

Neo-Soul at its Best

[Originally posted on Amazon.com, June 7, 2005]

Lisa McClendon’s debut album, My Diary, Your Life, is truly a masterpiece. You can actually listen to this album without skipping. The lyrics are deep, insightful, and full of anointing, truly. This album has caused me to listen to gospel music differently.

Lisa avoids irritating Christian cliches and just gets to the heart of the matter, whether it’s shacking up with a girl/boyfriend, religious hypocrisy, or dealing with temptation. Girlfriend just has it going on. She’s a gifted wordsmith and singer.

All the songs are great, but my favorites are…well, all of them. I especially like the spoken word interludes. They add a nice personal touch and an inside view of Lisa’s diary and life, because really, you may find your diary and life in this wonderful music. It’s just that good.
