Unboxing | Red Velvet Really Bad Boy

So Sassy!

That’s one way to describe Red Velvet’s fifth mini album Really Bad Boy (2018). This album is really fun, and every song is a certified bop.

Really Bad Boy highlights what Red Velvet does exceptionally well: catchy R&B pop with an ’80s and ’90s flair. Why they gravitate towards the “kid’s bop” style they’ve been doing for the past couple of years puzzles me.

Red Velvet isn’t a young group, and I don’t mean that pejoratively. But these are women in their mid to late twenties, and you would think the music they record would reflect that fact—as is exemplified in Really Bad Boy.

Their discography is a mixed bag, and some albums I like more than others, including this one. So here’s to Red Velvet exploring their more grown side and leaving the more juvenile songs to younger girl groups.

  2. Butterflies
  3. So Good
  4. Sassy Me (멋있게)
  5. Taste
  6. Really Bad Boy (English Version)
